Simone Legno is an artist from Rome, Italy. His artwork combines the American, Italian and Japanese figurative tradition into a unique graphic style whose trademark mix of innocence and allure has won fans and admires and rapidly taken the world by storm.
Tokidoki means “sometimes” in Japanese. Simone chose it because everyone waits for that particular moment that can change one's destiny. Tokidoki, in this sense, refers to the hope that something incredible will happen to us, the energy that everybody has hidden inside, giving us the strength to face a new day and dream about something positive and - why not? - magic. Tokidoki's story is a bit of magical itself. It is the story of an Italian guy who succeeded in establishing his own name and style in the competitive and crowded fashion business thanks to the word-of-mouth on the Internet. The increasing success of Simone's personal website www.tokidoki.it caught the eye of the former owner of Hard Candy Cosmetics and in 2003 Simone was offered to move from Rome to Los Angeles to start a business and fulfill his dreams. Tokidoki's adventure started with producing t-shirts but by 2004 it became an apparel, art and lifestyle brand. With the rapid growth of the company, Tokidoki was now able to develop their line to vinyl toys, skateboards, jewelry, watches, knitwear, sportswear, footwear and accessories.
All of a sudden, the Tokidoki mania exploded in LA. Subsequently, thanks to a long list of collaborations with the most important international brands that recognized and acknowledged Simone’s talent and originality, it conquered the rest of the globe. From Le Sportsac to Mercedes Benz, from Fornarina to New Era via Fujitsu, Marvel, Skullcandy and Onitzuka, all the mayor players in the business wanted a bit of the colorful Tokidoki world to be featured on their products. After the recognition that arrived in 2008, when kawaii company par excellence Sanrio announced a collaboration between Tokidoki and their best known character, Hello Kitty, tokidoki announces a collaboration with K by Karl Lagerfeld, the denim brand of the world most influent taste maker . Tokidoki mania won VIPs and celebrities as well: Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Blink 182, Jessica Alba, Rachel Hunter, Paris Hilton - just to name a few. Tokidoki art strikes to the heart with sensuality and tenderness: an happy world that is pure, charming and fun but with a sophisticated sensual edge which conveys a positive feeling through our everyday objects. Probably the secrete of Tokidoki's success is just as simple as that.
