APROPOS: A German fashion institution

When it comes to concept stores, APROPOS is a German household name. With two retail outlets in the cities of Cologne and Dusseldorf, plus an online store, APROPOS has quickly become the destination for luxury and opulence in Germany. Business partners and owners Klaus Ritzenhöfer and Daniel Riedo, who established APROPOS in the summer of 2004, were looking to create a place where customers could spend an afternoon or even entire day, browsing at a leisurely pace, indulging in lunch at in-store restaurant Fischermann’s, or popping into the art gallery. Staying true to their motto: “Beautiful things for beautiful minds”, Ritzenhöfer and Riedo’s store is comprised of high-end products including shoes, accessories, cosmetics, electronics and home-furnishings.

Here, shoppers can peruse the latest collection pieces from Halston, Lanvin and Marc Jacobs. Just down the road, visitors will find APROPOS’s 2500 square-meter youthful counterpart, dealing in labels like Chloe, Marithé et François Girbaud and Juicy Couture. In the equally extensive men’s department, Prada and Dior Homme are presented alongside Etro and Giorgio Armani. Famed architect Zaha Hadid, a self-confessed shoe fetishist, has praised the store’s “Shoe Salon”, where Christian Louboutin, Prada, MiuMiu and Nicholas Kirkwood designs are all playfully displayed in the elegant boudoir-like space.

The recent launch and success of APROPOS’s online shop reflects consumer demand beyond the Cologne’s and Dusseldorf’s brick-and-mortar locations. “It’s more than just shopping at home, we definitely want to convey the flair of APROPOS” confirms Ritzenhöfer. “Furthermore, our online presence supports our retail. Many customers find us online and then come into the store to experience APROPOS live”.
